Following our report on Double Vision, the software that allows you to open videos or browse the web directly in your work-related documents, we have another free piece of software that should have you ward off curious co-workers. The key difference between Double Vision and Chameleon 2 is that the first emphasizes its helpfulness in the productivity department (cough), while the later puts its time wasting usefulness out in the open.

“Bored by the many people in your office that continually walk behind you looking on your monitor? Chameleon is a software that allows you to quickly hide custom groups of programs and to make any window on your computer transparent. Fully compatible with Windows Live Messenger, Skype, Opera, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Outlook and many, many others,” explains Enlarge Your Nerd!.

What makes Chameleon stand out of the crowd is its grouping feature. The software, which normally tucks itself in the system tray, allows you to see exactly what applications your Windows-based operating system is running. Out of all these apps, you can select the ones that will have their transparency level modified; you can also select which apps will be hidden away from sight when you press the Ctrl + Start key combo (similar to a boss key).

Speaking of the system tray, sometimes it is a lot simpler to send open apps to the system tray rather than having them clutter your task bar. TrayIt, which is portable and as such does not require an installation, allows you to go through all the windows you have opened and select the ones you would like to send to the system tray. To permantently tray an item, you must select the option from the TrayIt user interface; to temporarily tray an item, press Shift while minimizing the window. Alternatively you might want to use Minime, a software application that also sends open programs to the taskbar.
