Keep Things Private, Hit the Boss Key

There moments when you do not want others snooping around your machine, moments when you do not want them to see what you are up to, and this is where a boss key or panic button comes in. It will minimize all open applications, kill sounds, and even turn the desktop black. When that person has gone away and you are all alone, the panic button will restore your system.

One piece of software that can perform the task of a panic button/boss key is Dad’s Around 1.1. The only requirements needed to use this program are as follows: a computer and a brain. I am not joking around, those are the actual system requirements posted by the developer. Leaving jokes aside, these simple “requirements” actually mean that the software is very simple to use.

Dad’s Around 1.1 will work on any Windows-powered machine and comes free-of-charge. The only thing you need to do is download the 7z format archive, unpack it (unpacker available for download here), and run it on your machine. If you want to, you could always put the software program onto a storage device and take it with you wherever you go (school, work, Australia, etc).

Using the software is a pretty straightforward process. All you have to do is select the tasks you want it to perform (there are 4 to choose from: silence WAVE audio, kill foreground process, minimize all windows, and show black screen) and select the hotkey that will be used as a panic button.

If you are worried about disk space or memory usage, you need not be. Dad’s Around 1.1 weighs in at a mere 276.3KB when archived and has a memory footprint of about 5MB.

If you would like to get Dad’s Around 1.1, a download location is available here.
