Happy 1st Birthday to BitTorrent Sync
Back in April 2013, the BitTorrent team rolled out BitTorrent Sync to everyone interested in testing out the secure syncing tool – a tool that does not need the cloud to sync data across devices.
A year has passed since then. The 1-year-old sync tool is now a lot faster, its userbase increased considerably, support for more and more platforms has been added, and the feature list increased.
BitTorrent Sync, as the name points out, is a tool that can be used to sync data across multiple devices. Its best attributes are that it is fast, secure, and capable of handling very large files. Another nice thing about BitTorrent Sync is that it does not use the cloud – it syncs files using P2P technology, not by using the cloud.
BitTorrent Sync, the public version to be more precise, was rolled out to the public in April 2013. Since it is now April 2014, it means that BitTorrent Sync turned 1.
“A big thanks to all of you for taking us through the first year,” said Konstantin Lissounov, General Director of Minsk R&D office at BitTorrent.
“As we move into year 2, our users will be at the core of what we do. Separate from everything else, we want to make a product that works for you,” he added.

- Its userbase increased considerably. According to the latest statistics, more than 2 million people use the cloud-free syncing tool.
- Support for more and more platforms has been added. BitTorrent Sync now provides support for Windows, Windows Phone, Mac, iOS (iPhone and iPad). Kindle, Free BSD, and NAS devices.
- The feature list increased. Existing features were refined, new features were introduced. The BitTorrent Sync worked hard to make the tool better and better. And as Lissounov mentioned above, the team will keep working on making BitTorrent Sync a properly good sync tool.
