Cortana, Microsoft’s personal digital assistant, is currently available for Windows Phone and Microsoft Band. But Microsoft plans to change that and make it available for more platforms, including Google’s Android.

Microsoft recently announced that starting in July, a Beta version of Cortana for Android will be available to test. It will work as a companion to Cortana on your Windows 10 PC.

The Windows 10 operating system, as you may already know, is scheduled to be released on July 29th, 2015. If you have a qualifying and genuine Windows copy, and if you choose to upgrade within the first year, Microsoft will offer the operating system for the low price of free.

Cortana will be deeply integrated into the new Windows 10 operating system. Cortana will deliver the latest news, Cortana will notify you about important events, Cortana will help you effortlessly search for stuff online.

Cortana will also be integrated into Microsoft Edge, the new web browser that Windows 10 features. Cortana will be in the address bar, ready to help you get things done faster and easier.

On the mobile front, Cortana is currently available only for Microsoft’s Windows Phone mobile operating system and Microsoft Band smartband. But that will change in the future. You see, Microsoft plans to make Cortana available as an app for Apple’s iOS and for Google’s Android mobile operating systems.

Microsoft plans to make a Beta version of Cortana for Android available starting July. You’ll be able to ask Cortana questions using natural language and she’ll provide an answer. You’ll be able to use Cortana to set up reminders about important events. And if you forget about an event and start watching a movie on your Xbox, Cortana will interrupt the playback to remind you about that important event.

It’s worth noting that Microsoft wants to make Cortana available for another device – its own Xbox.

“On Xbox One, Cortana knows your friends and makes it easy to invite them to play with you through simple voice commands. If you want to record and share a clip of your game play, you can use Cortana to precisely control the length of the recording and quickly share it with your friends without leaving your game. Cortana will also help you find information about games, such as the release date of an upcoming game, or help you get achievements by surfacing videos and information to help you succeed,” explained Marcus Ash, Group Program Manager for Cortana on Windows.
