Do you know what day is today? If your answer went something like “today is Tuesday, the 22nd of March”, then you are right. But do you know what happens today, the 22nd of March? I will tell you if you don’t know: today is the day that the Angry Birds Rio game is supposed to go live in app stores all over the world. Rovio Mobile announced that on the 22nd of March, the Angry Birds Rio game will be released.

Speaking of app stores, it should be mentioned that the Android version will not be released on the Android Market. Last week Rovio Mobile announced that Angry Birds Rio for Android will be rolled out exclusively on the Amazon Appstore at amazon.com/angrybirds.

“Angry Birds Rio is a fun and interactive way to introduce millions of fans to the exciting world of 'RIO,' and we are proud to work with both Rovio and Amazon to make this experience available to users on the Android platform,” said Peter Levinsohn, president of new media and digital distribution for Twentieth Century Fox. “The Amazon Appstore will be a great new way for consumers to download all their favorite Android apps, and we’re excited to offer Angry Birds Rio as one of the first pieces of content to be made available to consumers through this new store.”

The Angry Birds Rio game, which features 60 levels of bird flinging fun, is based on the Rio movie which will be released on the 15th of April in the US. In the movie we are presented with Blu, a domesticated Macaw who never learned to fly, and Linda, Blu’s owner and best friend. The two think Blu is the last of his kind, but then they find out otherwise; they find out that there’s another Macaw in Rio de Janeiro called Jewel and so they go to Rio. Some bungling animal smugglers then kidnap Blu and Jewel. After Blu and Jewel escape their kidnappers, thanks to Jewel’s street smarts and a group of wise-cracking and smooth-talking city birds, Blu has to find the courage to learn to fly, thwart the kidnappers who are hot on their trail, and return to Linda.

In the Angry Birds Rio game the original angry birds are kidnapped and taken to Rio. They manage to escape their captors and then set out to save Blue and Jewel.
