AVG, security software developer better known for their free antivirus security solution, has recently released version 8.5 of the Internet Security suite. AVG Internet Security 8.5 provides complete protection against the usual nasties you are going to encounter while browsing the web: viruses, spyware, hacker attacks, phishing, email scams, and so on. This latest update comes with a brand new feature – identity theft protection.

“AVG Internet Security now contains a new extra layer of security to protect you from identity theft as well as new and unknown malware. Your passwords, account information, credit card numbers, social security numbers and other valuables are safe from identity thieves,” explains AVG.

AVG is now able to provide identity theft protection because it recently purchased Sana Security and used their research to enhance their behavior-based malware protection technology. It must be said that AVG uses a two tier protection: pattern-based and behavior-based. If you like the identity protection feature but would rather use another security solution (not AVG Internet Security 8.5), all you have to do is get the standalone AVG Identity Protection software which AVG will release in the future.

AVG Technologies CEO JR Smith explains: “Computer users need to be confident that when they’re banking and shopping online, they won’t become a victim of identity theft. Anti-virus alone can’t give users the level of security people need in today’s complex, fast-moving threat landscape. AVG Identity Protection gives them the confidence that they’re safe from the bad guys. We know the security challenges users face in their daily lives. Our products are designed to prevent those challenges from becoming problems, leaving users free to get on with their digital lives. They’re easy to set up, easy to use, easy to find – and some of them are even free, for ever.”

If you are not willing to pay any money for security software, you need not do so. There are several software developers that offer their software applications either as a 30-day free trial or completely free. We’ve already covered some of the best known free antivirus security solutions that you can get at no charge whatsoever – details here.
