9 New Video Games You Can Play this Month (July 2016)

I think you know the drill by now. It’s the start of the month, meaning it’s time to find out what new video games will be released this July.

Before we get started, I just have to remind you about the Steam Summer Sale. More than 12,000 games are on sale, but only until July 4!

1. The Banner Saga 2 for consoles
  • Game type – Viking-themed tactical role-playing video game.
  • Release date – July 1 for Xbox One, July 5 for PS4. Already available for PC and Mac on Steam since April.
  • Price – $19.99 on the Xbox Store, free for Xbox Live Gold members during the month of July.
  • Gameplay – continue the epic journey you started in the original Banner Saga game. The decisions you made in the original game will influence how you start the sequel. If you didn’t play the original game, it’s okay. Just keep in mind that your strategic choices directly affect your journey.

2. Hawken
  • Game type – multiplayer mech first-person shooter video game.
  • Release date – July 1 for Xbox One, July 8 for PS4. Available for PC on Steam since 2014.
  • Price – free-to-play.
  • Gameplay – pilot hulking death machines on a dystopian human-colonized planet and use massive weaponry to destroy your foes in fast-paced FPS gameplay.

3. Inside
  • Game type – puzzle platformer adventure video game.
  • Release date – June 29 for Xbox One and July 7 for PC.
  • Price – $19.99 on Steam and the Xbox Store.
  • Gameplay – Inside, the sequel to Limbo, focuses on a young boy’s struggles against evil forces that are trying to take over the world through questionable experiments on human bodies.

4. Ghostbusters
  • Game type – third-person action-adventure role-playing video game with up to four-player local co-op.
  • Release date – July 12 for PC, Xbox One and PS4.
  • Gameplay – the game accompanies the Ghostbusters reboot. Just like in the movie, a team of four Ghostbusters use their proton packs to defeat enemy ghosts.


While you still have to wait for the new Ghostbusters movie and new Ghostbusters game to be released, the new Ghostbusters mobile game is already here. Say hello to Ghostbusters: Slime City for Android and iOS.


5. Chambara
  • Game type – a local multiplayer stealth-deathmatch game.
  • Release date – July 26 for PS4.
  • Gameplay – Chambara reinvents the hide and seek game. You have to camouflage yourself against like-colored areas and then ambush your foes.

6. Necropolis
  • Game type – action role-playing video game, a blend of third-person action and procedural dungeon-delving.
  • Release date – July 12 for PC
  • Price – $29.99 on Steam and other locations.
  • Gameplay – you’re a nameless adventurer and you have to to escape a living, magical dungeon that reconstructs itself each time you play. Craft, equip, explore, and fight to stay alive as you delve deeper and face ever-greater threats in the twisting halls and endless chasms of the Necropolis.

7. Song of the Deep
  • Game typeMetroidvania-style video game.
  • Release date – July 12 for PC, Xbox One and PS4.
  • Price – $14.99 on Steam.
  • Gameplay – Merryn’s father went missing while fishing. So the young girl crafts a makeshift submarine and goes searching for him.

8. I Am Setsuna
  • Game type – Japanese role-playing video game.
  • Release date – July 19 for PC and PS4.
  • Price – $39.99 on Steam and the PlayStation Store.
  • Gameplay – in a land of sorrow and bitter cold, a girl prepares to make the ultimate sacrifice and save everyone.

9. Kerbal Space Program for consoles
  • Game type – a challenging space flight simulator.
  • Release date – sometime this July for Xbox One and PS4.
  • Gameplay – direct a nascent space program and help the Kerbals go into outer space.
