Check out the new weather app for iPhone that Yahoo! has just recently rolled out. It uses beautiful images from the Flickr community to show the current weather conditions.

The first thing I do in the morning, after turning off my smart alarm of course, is check the weather. Just like me, there are numerous people out there who do the same thing – it has become a routine task that smartphone users perform on a daily basis. Yahoo! doesn’t like that checking the weather is a routine task – the company wants to turn it into an inspiring experience. And that is why it rolled out a weather app that provides “a window into the places you care about.”

With the new app, checking the weather forecast becomes much more than reading some numbers and charts on your device’s screen. Yahoo! takes the experience to the next level by combining useful information about the weather with appealing photos from the Flickr community.

"Inside you’ll find stunning snapshots of weather around the world," explained Marco Wirasinghe, Director of Mobile and Emerging Products with Yahoo! "With a tilt of your phone, get lost scrolling through photos reflecting the current weather in places that matter to you. We like to think of it as flipping through a stack of postcards from your travels. It’s easy to get the details. Tap the temperature for a quick view of the forecast or scroll down for precipitation, wind and pressure, a radar map, and more."

Marco Wirasinghe went on to say that the goal is to have amazing photos for every weather condition across every city in the world. To reach this goal, your help is needed. You can lend a helping hand by submitting photos to the Project Weather Flickr Group. If one of your images is selected, it will be viewed by tens of millions in the Yahoo! Weather app.

Yahoo! Weather is available for iPhone, iPod, and iPod Touch. It launched internationally in 30 languages. You can get the app for free from Apple’s App Store here.
