Windows Phone Ecosystem Expands as Microsoft Gets 9 New Hardware Partners
Right now, Windows Phone is available for Nokia, Samsung, HTC and Huawei-developed hardware. These are Microsoft’s existing hardware partners for the Windows Phone platform.
In the near future, Windows Phone will be available on more hardware platforms. That is because Microsoft recently put 9 new names on its list of hardware partners: Foxconn, Gionee, Lava (Xolo), Lenovo, LG, Longcheer, JSR, Karbonn and ZTE.
If you want to get an Android, you have lots of choices. You can get an Android phone from Samsung, you can get an Android phone from Sony, you can get an Android phone from Motorola, you can get an Android-powered phone from numerous hardware manufacturers.
If you want to get a Windows Phone, you don’t have that many choices. That is because Microsoft’s existing list of hardware partners is made up of just 4 names: Nokia, Samsung, HTC and Huawei. So if you want a Windows phone, you have but 4 manufacturers to choose from. But that will soon change!
You see, Microsoft recently announced that it partnered with more hardware manufacturers. 9 new names were added to the list of hardware partners for Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform: Foxconn, Gionee, Lava (Xolo), Lenovo, LG, Longcheer, JSR, Karbonn and ZTE.
“We are pleased to add these new partners to our expanding Windows Phone ecosystem. They will be key contributors to continued growth across price points and geographies for Windows Phone,” said Nick Parker, corporate vice president of the OEM Division at Microsoft.
7 out of the top 10 smartphone manufacturers in the world are now working with Microsoft on the Windows Phone platform. Leading brands in China, India, and Taiwan are now working with Microsoft on the Windows Phone platform.
“We are making it easier, faster and more affordable for partners to develop a Windows Phone,” Parker added.
