According to a study conducted by Ken Kovash and Eric Hergenrader on about 5,000 non-Firefox 3.X users, several reasons have prevented these people from upgrading to Firefox 3.X. That is a shame, because Firefox 3.0 was a properly good piece of software, and the latest 3.5 version is even better then 3.0. Personally I don’t really care all that much why other people did not upgrade. What I do care about is why they should upgrade.
When Firefox 3.0 was launched I immediately switched; when Firefox 3.5 was rolled out I switched once again. Hey, you might say that just comes with the territory, as a software news editor you have to do this. Okay, you’re right, but think about it this for a moment: if Firefox 3.5 sucked, would I still be using it today. That’s enough ranting, here are the main reasons why I think you should upgrade to Firefox 3.5:
1. Speed
Firefox 3.5 is a faster than version 3.0 and a whole lot faster than the outdated, no longer supported Firefox version 2.0. The speed comes from an improved TraceMonkey JavaScript engine and an enhanced Gecko layout engine.
2. Privacy
Do you want your browsing habits to remain private? That is not a problem with Firefox 3.5. Thanks to the Private browsing mode, which you can turn on manually or configure to launch automatically, you can browse the web safe in the knowledge that none of this info will be stored by Firefox: browser history, search history, download history, web form history, cookies, or temporary internet files
Then there’s the Clear Recent History feature that allows you to erase all browsing data for the past 1 hour , 2 hours, 4 hours, or the entire day.
And to top things off, in the history Library (click History -> Show All History or press Ctrl+Shift+H) you can get Firefox to Forget About This Site (all references to a particular domain will be deleted).
3. Security
The web is a dangerous place, but Firefox 3.5 tackles security problems brilliantly. Besides protecting you from known malicious sites and phishing attempts, it releases security updates (like Firefox 3.5.3 faster than the competition (at least that’s what this study revealed).
If you would like to get Firefox 3.5, you can download it straight from FindMySoft here.
