Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Beta and Two New Windows 7 Themes

As you may remember, not too long ago Microsoft rolled out a security tool called Microsoft Security Scanner. It is a free application that allows users to perform on-demand scans to detect and remove malware threats. The tool is portable and expires after 10 days. That;s pretty much all there is to say about Microsoft Security Scanner. If you want to learn more, check out this article.

Microsoft has rolled out another security tool not too long ago – Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Beta. This is a recovery tool anyone could use to start an infected PC and perform an online scan to identify and remove rootkits and other malware threats. The tool can also be used to detect and remove malware when other antivirus products cannot be started or cannot be installed or cannot detect or remove malware themselves.

So basically you can get this bootable tool from Microsoft and use it to create a LiveCD, LiveDVD or LiveUSB. Then you can use Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Beta to clean an infected machine when existing antivirus products do not work or when the infected machine refuses to boot up.

Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Beta uses the same antivirus engine as Microsoft Security Essentials, but unlike Microsoft Security Essentials, it does not provide real-time protection against security threats. Just like the abovementioned Microsoft Safety Scanner, Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Beta is not a replacement for a full antivirus solution. It’s just meant to help out users whose computers won’t start because they’re infected.

If you would like to get Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Beta, you can grab it straight from Microsoft here. The application is offered free of charge for 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows.

That takes care of the “Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Beta” part in the title. Let’s move on to the “Two New Windows 7 Themes” part. This one is quite simple: two new Windows 7 themes have been published to the Personalization Gallery, mainly Beautiful Birds and Echoes of the Past.

Here's a Beautiful Birds theme preview.

And here’s a preview for the Echoes of the Past theme.
