Friday, May 16, 2014, is the Day of the Donut. It is the day when image and video hosting site Flickr will give away donuts for free.

The event will take place between 10AM and 12PM at the Transamerica Redwood Park, near the Flickr offices, in San Francisco.

Back in 2008 Flickr user Jake Rome come up with an interesting idea: to get Flickr to give away donuts. Jake was adamant about getting Flickr to give free donuts to anyone who wanted some delicious fried pastry.

Jake’s demand did not go unnoticed. Users rallied to the cause and joined the We Demand Donuts group, a group that asked a simple question: Where’s My Funkin’ Donuts?

Image and video hosting site Flickr took notice as well. The company saw no harm in offering its users a sweet, deep-fried piece of heaven. And year after year, it did just that. It gave away free donuts to anyone who wanted one, as part of the Day of the Donut.

It’s now 2014, and things haven’t changed. Flickr continues to give away free donuts. This year, the event will take place on the 16th of May, near Flickr’s offices in San Francisco.
