With the inaugural Google Play Indie Games Festival being a hit in the US, Google decided to take the festival across the ocean and highlight innovative and fun mobile games created by developers in 12 European countries.

Google received nearly 1000 submissions for the first Google Play Indie Games Contest in Europe. After carefully going over all the submissions, Google narrowed the list down to 20 finalists. After the finalists were showcased at the Saatchi Gallery in London, the list was narrowed down to a top 10.

These are the 10 mobile games that made it to the final round of the first Google Play Indie Games Contest in Europe. These games were pitched to a jury of industry experts, experts who picked 2 runners up and 1 winner.

Blind Drive – audio driving game

You are blindfolded and driving against traffic. A mysterious voice is giving you suicidal commands on the phone. Use only your hearing to swerve away from on-rushing vehicles.

Gladiobots – competitive tactical game

In this game you get to create the AI of your robot battle squad. Then battle it out against players from all over the world so that you can reach the top of the leaderboard.

Happy Hop: Kawaii Jump – one-tap endless hopper

This game features Miimos, which the developer says are "the cutest and most loyal guardians in the world. Once they became your friend, your bond will be unbreakable. They will protect you and love you with all the strength of their tiny heart. They even bring you good luck!"

Lost In Harmony – rhythm game

This free rhythm game features 2 stories: M.I.R.A.I.'s Escape, where you get to conduct M.I.R.A.I. in his flight through the universe, and Kaito’s Adventure, which is a story about a boy meeting a girl, but fate tries to tear them apart.

Paper Wings – fast-paced arcade game

The goal in this fast-paced arcade game is to control an origami bird, collect all the yellow circles, and avoid the red ones. The game features 20+ bird species, 4 different game modes, simple controls, as well as daily quests & challenges.

Pinout – pinball arcade experience

The classic pinball mechanic remodeled into a breathtaking arcade experience that features pulsating lights and throbbing retro wave beats.

Rusty Lake: Roots – point-and-click adventure game

This game tells the story of James Vanderboom, whose life drastically changes when he plants a special seed in the garden of the house he has inherited.

So as I said at the beginning, out of nearly a thousand submissions, only 10 got to be pitched to a jury of industry experts, experts who picked 2 runners up and 1 winner.

These are the runners up

Causality – puzzle game

Manipulate time and help a group of stranded astronauts find a route to safety. That’s what you have to do in this challenging puzzle game that’s set across strange and alien landscapes.

The Battle of Polytopia – turn-based strategic adventure

Explore automatically generated maps, fight evil AI tribes, master new technologies, and rule the world.

And the grand winner of the first Google Play Indie Games Contest in Europe is…

Reigns – strategy game

The king is dead! You are the new king and what you say goes! Will you be kind and gentle, or will you be a malevolent king? Each decision you make might have implications and unfortunate consequences down the road that could put your reign and family’s dynasty at risk!

Reigns is $2.99 for Android, iOS, and PC or Mac (via Steam).

Back in December 2016, Apple featured Reigns on its 10 Best iPhone Games of the Year list.
