With just one week until Prey is released, Bethesda has finally unveiled the system requirements your PC will have to meet if you want to play this first-person action-adventure video game.

So without any further ado, here are the minimum and recommended system requirements for Prey, the game that has you fighting shadowy aliens with badass weapons and mind-bending powers.

Prey – Minimum system requirements
  • CPU – Intel i5-2400 or AMD FX-8320 processor.
  • GPU – NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon 7850 graphics card with 2GB VRAM.
  • RAM – 8GB.

Prey – Recommended system requirements
  • CPU – Intel i7-2600K or AMD FX-8350 processor.
  • GPU – NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or AMD R9 290 graphics card with 4GB VRAM.
  • RAM – 16GB.
The only requirement you have to worry about if you’re going to play Prey on a console is storage space. If you have an Xbox One, you’ll need 38GB of free storage space; that’s up to 35.7GB for the game and additional space for the patch that will be released on launch day. And if you have a PlayStation 4, you’ll need 42GB of storage space; up to 39.5GB for the game and additional space for the patch.

What is Prey all about?

The action takes place in 2032 aboard Talos I, a space station orbiting the Moon, space station that’s used for morally dubious experiments designed to improve the human race. But something’s happened and the station is now overrun by shadowy Typhon aliens. You are being hunted and you don’t know what’s going on! So use your wits, weapons, and mind-bending powers to fight the aliens and uncover Talos’ dark secrets. The fate of the space station and everyone aboard is in your hands!

Your character in the game is called Morgan Yu, and you can choose if you want Morgan to be male or female. That’s the first in a long line of choices this game will let you make. This being an Arkane Studios game, it offers the characteristic freedom and player choice that we’ve come to expect from the developer.

"There are many layers to Prey," says Creative Director Raphael Colantonio. "There’s the shooter aspect, but it’s also an RPG and an adventure. You’ll explore, you’ll fight, you’ll play with powers – both human and alien. You craft your playstyle based on the choices that you make."

The Typhon aliens are shadowy creatures whose main goal is to destroy the human race. There are all sorts of Typhon aliens on the Talos I space station and you’ll have to defeat them using weapons, powers, or a combination of both.

Alongside weapons and powers, Prey has a crafting system that lets you create useful gadgets, tools, ammo, or medkits.

Prey is set in an alternate universe

In our world, President Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. In Prey’s fictional world, JFK managed to survive the assassination and after recovering, he threw the nation further into the space race by taking control of a U.S./Russian joint program and transforming a Russian satellite into a fully functional R&D facility meant to study non-terrestrials. It’s this facility that later became Talos I, the space station where the whole game takes place.

At 720 meters long, the Talos I space station is huge. It’s bigger than the International Space Station (109m), bigger than the Titanic (270m), and even bigger than the Empire State Building (443m). If that doesn’t sound impressive, keep in mind that Morgan Yu is only 1.65m tall.

"Talos I is an amazing sandbox," said Lead Gameplay Designer Seth Shain. "We have a huge diversity of locations."

Prey – Release date and price

Prey is scheduled to be released precisely a week from now, on May 5, 2017. The game is priced at a standard $60 and it is available for pre-order on Steam and Bethesda’s own digital store.

To lure you into pre-ordering Prey, Bethesda offers the Cosmonaut Shotgun Pack, which features 2 medkits, some starter fabrication materials, 3 Transtar Neuromods, 1 recycling shielding chipset, and best of all, the Yu family’s heirloom Margrave shotgun & ammo plans.

"Designed especially for Catherine Yu’s participation in the Centennial European Shooting Championship, the Throne “Margrave” is a masterpiece of firearm craftsmanship. Mahogany stock, a proprietary metal alloy barrel and 24 karat gold inlay combined with superior electronic gun control systems deliver the ultimate shooting experience. Mrs. Yu worked closely with Throne ergonomic experts to make this gun an extension of the shooters body; fast to point and easy to discharge."

The good news for console players is that they can try Prey before launch by getting the Opening Hour Demo. Released on April 27, it gives console players the chance to play the first hour of the game for free.

PC players will just have to make do with this 35-minutes long gameplay video.
