Mac OS X users no longer have to put up with the fact that there is no Mac specific version of the uTorrent software, because now there is – uTorrent version 0.90 Beta. The simple truth of the matter is that when it comes to P2P file sharing and torrent tracking, the software of choice all over the world is uTorrent, so it made sense to target the Apple world, not just Microsoft’s neck of the woods.

The good news is that if your machine runs on Mac OS X 10.5 and you want to use uTorrent, you can do so now. The bad news is that the application is still in its Beta development phase. This means that it is not yet stable and has the potential to crash, things may go wrong due to the bugs that have not yet been worked out, and you might get really displeased when things do not work just right. Reports on the web though state that uTorrent 0.90 Beta works well enough to efficiently get the file sharing job done.

Mackies all over the world have been waiting for a Mac version of this piece of software for about two years now. It was back in 2006 that the uTorrent team decided to address the issue, but only in 2007 did they settle on making uTorrent for Mac a replica of the Windows version which was launched back in 2005.

“We’re obviously really psyched that we finally got this beta out there. This is indeed a port of the uTorrent source on top of OSX. On Windows, uTorrent is by far the best BitTorrent client out there on a power:performance basis. Following on from uTorrent’s roots, we have continued to focus on only features that users really want, and we have avoided bloating up on lots of clutter. We’re now looking forward to bringing that specialness to the world of Mac-lovers,” said Simon Morris, Vice President of Product Management with BitTorrent.
