iPhone OS 3.1.2 is a Bug Fix Update that Some Should Avoid
Cupertino-based software developer Apple has updated the operating system that powers the iPhone to version 3.1.2. The update does not bring any new features to the table, unlike iPhone OS 3.1 and OS 3.0 before it. The update just fixes a few bugs – three bugs to be more precise.
Here is what the iPhone OS 3.1.2 fixes, as detailed by Apple:
The update, which weighs in at about 250MB, applies to: iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS.
You can get the update by connecting your iPhone to your computer, launching iTunes and clicking Check for Updates. But before you do so, take a look at what the iPhone Dev Team had to say about the update.
“If you care about your jailbreak and unlock, don’t update your device - 3G and 3G(S) owners should pay particular attention to this warning,” said the iPhone Dev Team.
This warning was issued for one simple reason: PwnageTool and redsn0w are not compatible with iPhone OS 3.1.2 yet. The Dev Team said they are working on releasing compatible tools but they cannot provide a release date, not even an estimated one. And they don’t want to be bugged about it.
Alongside iPhone OS 3.1.2 Apple has also released iPhone SDK (Software Development Kit) 3.1.2. This is the message Apple sent all registered developers: “iPhone SDK 3.1.2 is now available on the iPhone Dev Center. If you have updated your development devices to iPhone OS 3.1.2, you will need to download and install the new iPhone SDK to continue your development. A version of iPhone SDK 3.1.2 is also available to developers who are running Mac OS X Snow Leopard. Please ensure you select the appropriate SDK based on your development environment.”
