iPhone OS 3.0: Tap Tap Revenge with Push Notification

The iPhone OS 3.0, which Apple announced it will be rolled out on the 17th of June, comes with a long list of improvements and new features. One of these new features is Push Notification – you will receive notifications even though the app is not running – and the first iPhone app to have this feature is Tap Tap Revenge.

Tap Tap Revenge, in case you never heard of it, is a music game where the goal is to tap all the colored balls when they reach the bottom of the screen. Compare it with Guitar Hero or Dance Dance Revolution if you will. How the game is played is not important; what is important is the fact that Tap Tap Revolution version 2.6 is compatible with Apple’s iPhone OS 3.0 and as such comes with the Push Notification feature.

Here is how Push Notification works in the case of Tap Tap Revolution: you have downloaded the game for free, but you are not playing it at the moment. When someone challenges you in Tap Tap Revolution, you will receive an SMS-style alert on your iPhone informing you that you need to fire up the game and accept the challenge. From the settings menu you can choose to turn push notifications on or off. You can also configure notifications to include sounds, alerts and icon badges.

Tap Tap Revenge v. 2.6 comes with one other new feature: “New interface for sending a challenge to your friends, or creating a Batlle. Choose from a list of Tapulous friends, or send email to others.”

A video demo of Push Notification in Tap Tap Revolution is available here.
If you would like to get Tap Tap Revolution, an iTunes download location is available here.

Please keep in mind that for the time being Apple has not activated the Push Notification feature just yet. Tap Tap Revenge has the feature, but it is unlikely they will be sending out any push notifications just yet.
