iOS users from all over the world spent more than $10 billion dollars purchasing items from Apple’s App Store this 2013.

During the month of December 2013 alone, they purchased items worth more than $1 billion. About 3 billion apps were downloaded this December by iOS users in 155 countries around the world.

Cupertino-based company Apple was glad to announce that, from a financial point of view, the App Store had a great year. You see, the App Store managed to bring in more than $10 billion in sales during the entire year.

The last month of the year, the month of December 2013, was a particularly good one. A record-breaking $1 billion in sales was recorded by the App Store in December. It is worth noting here that 3 billion apps were downloaded from the App Store in December 2013.

It was a great year for developers as well. Apple developers earned $7 billion last year and $15 billion overall. I remind you that Apple takes 30% of all revenue generated through apps, and 70% goes to the app publisher.

“We’d like to thank our customers for making 2013 the best year ever for the App Store,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “The lineup of apps for the holiday season was astonishing and we look forward to seeing what developers create in 2014.”

Apple’s App Store is home to more than 1 million apps and about half of them are native iPad apps. All these apps can be easily accessed by iOS users in 155 countries around the world. The apps are conveniently sorted into several categories. 24 categories to be more precise: games, sports, health & fitness, kids and more. The kids section of the App Store was announced in September 2013 alongside the launch of iOS 7.
