gOS 3.1 Gadgets SP1 Update with Increased Google Support

Good OS, the company behind the Ubuntu-derived gOS operating system, has recently released an update to their software product, gOS 3.1 Gadgets SP1. What this update addresses are some bug issues, adds numerous package updates and enhances configurations while at the same time remaining true to its dependence on Google developed web applications.

“gOS 3.1 Gadgets instantly launches Google Gadgets for Linux on startup, introducing over 100,000 possible iGoogle and Google Gadgets to the desktop. Google Documents, Calendar, and Mail launch in Mozilla Prism windows to closer resemble desktop applications. The newest release of WINE 1.0 is included to now support thousands of Windows software for our advanced users,” explains Good OS.

gOS 3.1 Gadgets is based on Ubuntu 8.04, codename Hardy Heron. In related Ubuntu news, it must be said that Ubuntu 8.10, codename Intrepid Ibex was launched last Halloween, Super Ubuntu 2008.11 was just recently released to the general public while Ubuntu 9.04, codename Jaunty Jackalope, is still in its Alpha development phase.

Users that would like to run gOS 3.1 Gadgets SP1 should be aware of the system requirements their machines must meet:
- 700MHz x86 processor
- 384MB of RAM
- 8GB available free disk space
- 1024x768 resolution capable graphics card
- Sound card
- Connection to the web.

If you meet those system requirements, here is a quick list of features you can expect to get with gOS 3.1 Gadgets SP1:
- Wine, which will allow you to run Microsoft developed, Windows specific apps onto your Linux-based operating system.
- Google Gadgets
- Mozilla Prism, software that takes applications from their web environment and allows them to run as standalone programs.
- Mozilla Firefox 3.0 browser
- Skype instant messaging and VoIP client.
