Redmond-based software giant Microsoft has entered a partnership with eBay with the goal of helping Internet Explorer 8 users stay on top of Daily Deals on eBay. The holidays are just around the corner (Christmas is just a month away) and most shoppers are looking to save money. So Microsoft and eBay thought it a good idea to launch a Web Slice for IE8 that presents popular products selling at deep discounts. Within the Favorites Bar in IE8, users will receive updates and detailed info about Daily Deals on eBay.

Vice President of Buyer and Seller Experience with eBay, Rob Chesney, provided the following comment: “With almost 200 million live listings, the eBay Marketplace is second to none when it comes to holiday gift options. This season we are making it even easier for Internet Explorer 8 users to find amazing products at deep discounts with the eBay Daily Deals Web Slice.”

General Manager of Internet Explorer and Consumer Safety with Microsoft, Amy Barzdukas, provided a comment as well: “Our customers tell us they want a browser that puts them in control of their security and privacy, and those are key ingredients to a positive online experience. The eBay Daily Deals Web Slice is just one more great reason to upgrade to and use Internet Explorer 8 for all your online holiday shopping.”

If you are currently using IE8, the eBay Daily Deals Web Slice is available for download here. You can go all out and add eBay as a search provider or use the eBay accelerator.
If you are not currently using IE8, you can download IE8 Optimized for eBay here.

To my mind, this is just another reason for IE6 and IE7 to make the jump to IE8. Why did I say another reason? The first reason is that a new 0-day vulnerability has been discovered and it only affects IE6 and IE7. Read all about this vulnerability here.
