Zombie Infestation Spreads to GTA IV

As Halloween draws closer, those mindless, undead, flesh eating zombies are keeping as busy as a dark minion should. After a zombie infestation has been reported within World of Warcraft MMO, it is time for Grand Theft Auto IV to get infected – which means that brains made it back to the menu.

The Rockstar Social Club warns players that the GTA world is swept by a virus which when contracted will turn your character into a zombie. No matter which multiplayer mode you are currently playing, getting infected is always a possibility – all you have to do is kill a zombie and you will be turned into one!

How does a zombie look like? Well, pretty much what we've come to expect from Rockstar: stripped of all clothes, apart from a yellow speedo, and with a gruesome, blank stare in their eyes. This is the zombie skin which is used within GTA IV to identify the infected, but there is a catch – some infected look completely normal, so you will not realize they are infected until you kill them and get turned into a zombie. One telltale sign of infection (apart from the zombie skin) is the “Let Sleeping Rockstars Lie” achievement.

There are some benefits to getting infected. First of all, you get to run around the GTA virtual world as a decaying corpse in a bright yellow speedo. Secondly, you will get the “Let Sleeping Rockstars Lie” achievement. Thirdly, you will get access to statistics such as the total number of infected users, the number of users infected in the previous day, and a color coded infection map (with specific details for all the 50 US states).

We all know that the zombie breakout has hit GTA IV as a Halloween feature, but it would be interesting to see whether Rockstar will keep it and develop it into a scenario similar to “28 Days Later” or “Resident Evil” or forget about it once Halloween is over.
