If you want to see what the most popular searches were this year, then you need to know that Google’s Zeitgeist 2012 website went live and that the Zeitgeist 2012 app was released to the Play Store (an iOS version will be released in the near future).
Yesterday it was Twitter who took a look back and did a review of the year, today it is Google who is taking a retrospective look at 2012. The Mountain View-based search engine giant rolled out the Zeitgeist 2012 website and Android app – both offer easy access to lists that showcase what Google users searched for this year.
So if you’re curious to see what queries got the most amount of traffic this 2012, what artists prompted people from all over the world to Google them, what feature films captured the public’s attention, then go visit the website or go get the app.
“On our 2012 Zeitgeist website, you can explore the most popular and hottest trending search terms from around the world. This year’s site is our most global to date, with a total of 838 lists from 55 countries. We’ve also added a number of new features, including an interactive map that shows where and when some of the hottest terms spiked around the world,” commented Amit Singhal, SVP & Google Fellow.
As you can see below, Whitney Houston topped the international and US charts as the most searched for query. The artist’s unexpected death prompted millions of fans to turn to Google for more information.
