By now, you probably know that the Oculus Rift is priced at $599. You’ve checked your finances and you’ve come to the conclusion that this virtual reality device is worth six hundred bucks. As far as money is concerned, you’re ready for the Oculus Rift. Is your PC ready too?

The Oculus Rift doesn’t work all on its own. You’ll have to pair it with a PC, and a pretty powerful one at that. With the recently released Oculus Rift Compatibility Tool, you can check to see if your PC will be able to handle the Oculus Rift. Using this tool is as simple as 1, 2, 3.

Step 1 – Download and run the tool

The Oculus Rift Compatibility Tool does not have to be installed. To get started with it, you need only download and run an executable. Said executable is available for download right here on FindMySoft.

The following message will show up when you launch the Oculus Rift Compatibility Tool.

Step 2 – Analyze your PC

Click the Start button and the tool will analyze your PC. It will check your graphics card, memory, operating system, processor, and USB to make sure they meet the recommended system requirements for the Oculus Rift.

Step 3 – Review the results, order a new PC

Once the scan completes, the Oculus Rift Compatibility Tool will tell you which requirements are met and which aren’t.

Say your graphics card doesn’t meet the requirements. If you want to see why, just click the arrow button for more info.

And if nothing meets the system requirements, you’ll want to click the Order PC button. You’ll be directed to this webpage, which features several Rift-ready PCs. These are high-performance PCs that are optimized for Rift and won’t have any problems with virtual reality.

Oculus Rift recommended PC requirements

In case you were wondering, these are the recommended PC requirements for the Oculus Rift:
  • Operating system – 64-bit Windows edition, Windows 7 SP1 or newer.
  • Processor – Intel i5-4590 equivalent or better.
  • Memory – 8GB of RAM or more.
  • Graphics card – NVIDIA GTX 970, AMD R9 290 equivalent or better.
  • Video output – Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output.
  • USB ports – 3x USB 3.0 ports plus 1x USB 2.0 port

You might end up spending as much $1600

The Oculus Rift is available for-preorder right now from the Oculus Shop for $599. For this amount of money you get the Rift virtual reality headset, an Xbox One controller, the Oculus Remote, and an additional sensor.

You also get of free copies of 'Lucky’s Tale' and' Eve: Valkyrie'.

If you have a PC that meets the recommended requirements, your spending will stop at six hundred bucks. If you also want to get a new PC, you might end up spending as much as $1600.

You see, the Rift-ready PCs that Oculus VR recommends are priced between $949 and $999.

Try the Oculus Rift on a PC that doesn’t meet the requirements

The interesting thing is that Oculus VR will not lock you out if your PC does not meet the recommended requirements. You (probably) won’t have a very enjoyable experience, but you will be able to try the Oculus Rift.

"We will not be artificially restricting use of computers," Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey said. "Not my style. Some apps will run on lower spec machines, especially things like movie apps, but we can't officially support that, especially since many low end cards are physically unable to output the framerate and resolution required for the hardware to operate."

In related news…

Naughty America, one of the largest U.S. producers of adult videos, is ready for virtual reality and the Oculus Rift. The company announced that its VR titles are fully compatible with the Oculus Rift.

“We predict that by the end of 2016, 10-20 million people will be viewing adult VR content at least once a month and it will attract infrequent consumers,” said Ian Paul, CIO of Naughty America. “That’s how transformative the adult VR experience is and it’s going to get even better.”

The Oculus Rift is scheduled for release on March 28, 2016.

The Oculus Rift shop says that the expected ship date is June 2016.
