Today is YouTube Monday here at FindMySoft. All day today we will focus on the popular video sharing site YouTube, and only on the popular video sharing site YouTube. We continue the YouTube Monday coverage with the news that YouTube now supports videos shot in 4K.

Just to put things in perspective, 4K video runs in a resolution of 4096 x 3072, which is roughly four times the size of full HD. As YouTube explained, the ideal screen size for 4K videos is 25feet – or about 7.6m for those of you who are more accustomed to the metric system.

For those of you keeping track, YouTube enabled full HD (1080p) about a year back. And at the time a lot of people thought 1080p would be the top resolution on YouTube for a long, long time. YouTube has shown them wrong by announcing support for 4K video.

The YouTube team has put together a playlist of 4K videos that you can access here. Be warned though that to watch these videos, you are going to need an ultra-fast high-speed broadband connection. You will also need a hardware configuration that is capable of displaying the videos smoothly.

“Because 4K represents the highest quality of video available, there are a few limitations that you should be aware of. First off, video cameras that shoot in 4K aren’t cheap, and projectors that show videos in 4K are typically the size of a small refrigerator. And watching these videos on YouTube will require super-fast broadband. We're excited about this latest step in the evolution of online video. We've been impressed by the 1080p videos you've uploaded over the last seven months and can't wait to see (in 4K!) what you do next,” commented YouTube Engineer, Ramesh Sarukkai.
