In honor of the 2016 Olympic Games, which are going to kick off next month in Rio de Janeiro, Samsung unveiled a limited edition, Rio 2016-inspired Galaxy S7 Edge phone that has a special black metal frame and features the Olympic Games logo and color scheme on the outside and on the inside.

When I say "on the inside," I mean the Limited Edition phone wears the colors of the Olympic Rings on the home and lock screen, message, dial and contact screens, and the notification bar. Furthermore, it comes pre-loaded with Rio 2016 Olympic Games themed wallpapers and apps.

Samsung will give all Rio 2016 Olympians a free Limited Edition phone

Athletes who take part in the 2016 Summer Olympics will get a Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Games Limited Edition phone for free. Samsung will give athletes 12,500 Limited Edition phones along with a free pair of Gear IconX, the cord-free fitness earbuds that have an in-ear heart rate monitor, feature a standalone music player, and can track workouts without needing a phone, .

"Samsung’s technology has helped to engage with fans and especially young people around the world. The IOC [International Olympic Committee] is grateful for their partnership in providing Samsung Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition to the athletes that will compete in Rio de Janeiro. This will enable the athletes to connect with their friends, family and fans and share their amazing experience at the Olympic Games. With Samsung’s support, we look forward to inspire people everywhere with Olympic Values, the unique experience of the Olympic Games and the power of sport,” said IOC President Thomas Bach.

Samsung will offer 2,016 Limited Edition Phones to the public

Regular folk like you and me who want to get a Limited Edition phone will have the chance to get one, but it’s going to be tricky. Beginning July 18th, Samsung will make 2,016 phones available to the public, but only in "selected countries" including Brazil, the United States, China, Germany and Korea.

“Sports are all about an individual’s relentless journey of challenging complacency, and the Olympic Games are the ultimate global celebration of the progress and achievement of athletes, countries and their fans coming together to unite the world,” said Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung admires the spirit of Olympians and fans across the globe who continuously push boundaries for the better.”
