You Can Still Get Windows 10 For Free (by Lying to Microsoft)

Now that the free Windows 10 upgrade offer has ended, you have two choices: be honest and spend $120 on Windows 10 Home, or be dishonest and get Windows 10 for free.

July 29, 2016 – that was the date when Microsoft stopped offering Windows 10 for free, but not for everyone. The offer did not end on July 29 for people who require assistive technologies. So if you lie about having a disability, you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free.

Back in May, Microsoft announced that the 29th of July deadline applies to customers running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, but it does not apply to customers who have accessibility needs. Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 customers that require assistive technologies can take their time, they don’t have to hurry and upgrade by July 29.

"We are continuing to deliver on our previously-shared vision for accessibility for Windows 10 and we are committed to ensuring that users of assistive technologies have the opportunity to upgrade to Windows 10 for free as we do so," said Microsoft’s Daniel Hubbell back in May.

Late July, Microsoft once again announced that the deadline does not apply to the more than one billion people with disabilities in the world. Furthermore, Microsoft announced that it created a special webpage meant to help customers with disabilities upgrade to Windows 10.

Visit the webpage, click Upgrade, and you’ll get to download an executable.

Running the executable will install the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant on your PC. It will guide you through all the steps you need to take to switch from your current Windows edition to Windows 10.

This free Windows 10 upgrade offer probably won’t last forever

If people abuse this method of upgrading to Windows 10, Microsoft might take down the website and upgrade assistant.

Even if people do not abuse it, Microsoft might not keep this offer up indefinitely. On the bright side, Microsoft said that it will make a public announcement prior to ending it.

The bottom line is this. If you missed the July 29 deadline and you want to upgrade to Windows 10 for free, you might want to act now. Keep in mind though that by taking advantage of this upgrade offer you’re basically lying about having a disability. So...

Once you upgrade to Windows 10, you have 30 days to decide if you want to roll back to Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. After you roll back, you can re-upgrade anytime you want. As a matter of fact, that was one of the ways you could ensure you got Windows 10 for free after the July 29 deadline. Upgrade any time before July 29, roll back, and then upgrade again whenever is convenient.
