When I hear the word “yodel” I immediately thing of big, Swiss men in short pants, on top of the Swiss Alps – no I’m not, I like girls just fine! Then I come back to reality and I realize that the Yahoo! Yodel is a bit closer to home. I am sure that you are all familiar with the Ya Hooooo sound – it is after all one of the instantly recognizable parts of Yahoo!

The company has decided to change its “most beloved and recognized assets”. But not by hiring some expert in music – by letting the regular user have a shot at it.

Senior Director, Buzz Marketing, Brian Mullin, comments: “Today, we’re giving the Yahoo! yodel back to the people with the launch of Yodel Studio, a global casting call for the world’s best yodels. Yodelers who take us up on this challenge will personalize and reinterpret our yodel, competing for a chance to be featured in Yahoo!’s new global advertising campaign and on one of the world’s largest stages: the Yahoo! homepage. Your yodel will also be heard through the donation Yahoo! will make to local and global charities of your choice for each yodel submitted (up to $130,000).”

The launch of Yodel Studio is accompanied by live events across the world:
October 13th – New York Times Square, scheduled appearances by Jewel, Pete Wentz, LeAnn Rimes, and Randy Jackson
October 13th - Covent Garden in London, scheduled appearances by Rob Cavallo, Pixie Lott and the X Factor’s Sinitta
October 14th – High Street Phoenix Mall in Mumbai, scheduled appearances by singer Shankar Mahadevan, musical artists VJ Nikhil Chinappa and Shaa’ir + Func

All you have to do is go to Yodel Studio, plug in your webcam, select a background track of your choosing and start recoding your yodel. You may not have a webcam, I realize that. No problem, you can always record your yodel using your video phone or camcorder and upload it to Yodel Studio here.
