The ultra-simple simple Yo messaging app, the one that raised $1 million back in June, the one that was also hacked back in June, has been updated. The updated version introduces links, hashtags, profile photos, and more.

“We are very excited about our new release of the Yo app. We hope this will help you and users everywhere communicate more with the things they care about. This version shows the real power of the Yo platform which is, at its most basic, a 2-way communication platform between people, websites, brands, businesses and virtually anything that can connect to the internet,” said the Yo team.

Yo is an incredibly simple messaging app that became an instant phenomenon this summer. The app, in case you’re not familiar with it, works like this: send out a “Yo” as text and as a high-pitched audio notification to any of your friends. With a simple tap on your smartphone’s screen you can send out a Yo message to any of your friends.

The news is that the Yo app has been updated. iOS and Android users can enjoy the following new features:
  • Profile – the profile displays more than a username, it can now show your full name and photo. Your contacts can now see your full name and your photo; and you can see someone’s full name and photo just by right swiping the username.
  • Links – the app comes with the ability to send and receive links. You have the option to attach a link to the Yo you want to send out.
  • Index – the newer index of Yo services lets you subscribe to whatever you find interesting. The ever growing Yo index of services was built with the Yo API.
  • Hashtags (iOS only) – Yo added support for hashtags and started to track trending hastags. You can Yo #ILOVECOOKIES for example. And by right swiping on a hashtag you can see how many people Yo'ed the hashtag.
  • Various bug fixes and improvements.

Yo for iOS is available for download on Apple’s App Store.
Yo for Android is available for download on Google’s Play Store.

The Yo app is also available for Windows Phone. But the Windows Phone app has not been updated.
Yo for Windows Phone is available for download on the Windows Phone Store.
