Yahoo! Updates Yahoo! Messenger 10 Beta and Yahoo! Messenger for Mac 3.0 Beta
Yahoo! has released updated versions of its instant messaging (IM) application for the Microsoft developed Windows operating system as well as the Apple developed Mac OS X. For the Windows user, Yahoo! has updated Yahoo! Messenger 10 Beta to address a video bug; for the Mac OS X user, Yahoo! has updated Yahoo! Messenger for Mac 3.0 Beta to solve some sign in issues.
“An update of Yahoo! Messenger 10 Beta is now available (10.0.0.542). This latest version addresses a couple of video call bugs, plus some improvements in messaging about how it works. We hope everyone is enjoying Yahoo! Messenger 10 Beta. If you have any feedback, good or bad, please be sure to submit it through our feedback form, available under Help > Send Feedback in the product. And if you encounter any technical issues while using Yahoo! Messenger 10, go to Help > Report a Problem to Yahoo! to provide us with information that will help us troubleshoot the issue,” commented Senior Product Manager with Yahoo! Messenger, Sarah Bacon.
Here is what you can expect to get from the updated version of Yahoo! Messenger 10 Beta:
- Webcam detection: if your webcam worked with Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 but not with 10, the webcam detection logic has been improved in this update and the webcam should work just fine now.
- Grayed-out video call button: this button appears grayed-out in the IM window because the person you are talking to is using an older Yahoo! Messenger version. They need to upgrade if they want to video chat with you.
- Better call handling: if you make a call to a friend and he does not pick up within 20 seconds, the call will be automatically terminated. Now there’s a message informing you that your friend did not answer.
- Downgraded video calls explanation: if your internet connection cannot support a full video call, it is downgraded to audio-only. Inline messaging has been added to explain what’s going on.
Moving on, Yahoo! Messenger for Mac has been updated as well. Sarah Bacon explains: “An updated version of Yahoo! Messenger for Mac 3.0 is now available. This latest version includes a fix for a sign-in issue that some users have been experiencing. When we tested this latest version with some of those users, they found that it did correct their problem.” To be honest I was hoping to see a fix for the CamCamX incompatibility, but I guess this is better than nothing.
