Yahoo! has recently announced that it launched a new online service called Yahoo! Search Direct Beta and boasted about the fact that Yahoo! Search Direct provides a simpler and faster way to search. The aim with Yahoo! Search Direct is to provide you with answers to your query before you get to complete said query; or to provide you with the link to a site before you get to finish typing that site’s name.

It is somewhat similar to Google Instant, the feature that shows you search results as you type in your query. Barely do you get to type in “ama” that the ling to amazon.com already showed up. It is the same with Yahoo! Search Direct – barely do you get to type in “ama” that the link to amazon.com shows up. Here's an image to better put things in perspective.

Yahoo! Search Direct Beta “taps into Yahoo!’s unique opportunity to combine content and structured data and to provide a rich search experience. Search Direct predicts search results as fast as a person types, character by character, and presents those results dynamically, generating a fast, simple search experience that goes beyond a list of blue links,” said Yahoo!.

Yahoo Search Direct goes beyond Google Instant by offering these extra features:
- The trending Yahoo! searches are displayed so that you know what all the other Yahoo! users are searching for. To see the trending searches you need only click the search box.
- For numerous common searches, Yahoo! Search Direct provides instant answers. You will be provided with an answer before you can get to hit the Search button. You can for example easily get a three-day weather forecast, find a phone number, or see when a movie is playing.
- Rich Content. Yahoo! again: “For all top searches about sports, top news stories, and finance, Search Direct displays rich content that only the world’s largest digital media company can provide. For example, type “n” to get the Yahoo! News display, which always shows the top two trending stories.”

Yahoo! explained that Yahoo! Search Direct is being rolled out to US users now and will be rolled out to other markets later this year.
