The Mac OS X version of Yahoo!’s instant messaging client, mainly Yahoo! Messenger for Mac 3.0, recently reached a new milestone in its development process: the 4th Beta release. Even though the software has yet to reach stable version, this is not to say that the development team have been slacking off; because they haven’t, and Yahoo! Messenger for Mac 3.0 Beta 4 has some new features to boast about (some bugs have been fixed too). In related news, Yahoo! has recently updated their Windows version of YM 9.

“Yes, we’re still in Beta but the team has been hard at work fixing bugs and adding a few new features. We hope you enjoy this latest version. We value your input so please stop by our Mac feedback form after you’ve tried it out and let us know your thoughts,” says Product Manager, Sarah Bacon.

On the bug fix front it must be said that some of the problems affecting file transfer, chat rooms, image display, voice, webcam and stealth settings have been addressed – all 36 of them. Also, the Pingbox message has been modified to be easier to understand. It now says: “X is an anonymous visitor to your Pingbox. Be careful not to share confidential or private information with people you don’t know personally.”

On the new features front, here is what we have to report. To cancel the automatic sign in procedure simply hold down Shift while launching Yahoo! Messenger for Mac 3.0 Beta 4. Every time you flag a message as spam, the sender of said message is automatically added to your ignore list. In the Preferences tab check out the new “Enable Yahoo! Chat Room Archiving” which as the name suggests allows you to keep a record of your conversations will accessing various chat rooms. While you are in the there (Preferences I mean), you might also want to check out “Kobi lite”, the new message style this Beta release has to offer.
