The votes for the 2009 IM Awards are in, and it seems that Yahoo!’s popular instant messaging (IM) application, Yahoo! Messenger, is the big winner once again. This was the second year that put Yahoo! Messenger in the list of finalists, and thanks to the users (a total of 160,339 votes were cast) the Yahoo! team got the Best IM Client of the Year award.

It must be said that people all over the world had several categories to vote upon: best IM chat rooms, best 3rd party/independent IM, best overall IM experience, best Mac IM, most improved IM client, best IM feature, best IM (GUI) design and best IM developer(s) of the year. Product Manager with the Yahoo! Messenger team encouraged people to vote for Yahoo! more than once (here and here), and now that Yahoo! Messenger has been declared the winner of the competition, she made sure to thank all the voters out there.

“We did it! With the help of your votes, we retained our title and won several more categories in the 2009 IM Awards. We won the following awards: Best IM Client of the Year, Best Mac IM, Most Improved IM, Best Chat Rooms, Best Designed IM (GUI). Thanks to everyone who voted for us – we really appreciate it,” said Sarah Bacon.
