The holidays are upon us. Two days from now we’ll be sitting around the Christmas tree drinking hot chocolate and singing Christmas carols – or we’ll be getting our grove on at a Christmas party. I’m thinking the Yahoo! Messenger team is inclined to go with the first one. The guys over at Yahoo! came up with a funny carol entitled Let’s IM. You can view the Yahoo! Messenger team sing the carol here. And you can read the lyrics below.

LET’S IM
(sung to the tune of “Let it Snow”)

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But my computer is so delightful
And since we’ve no place to go
Let’s IM, let’s IM, let’s IM

It doesn’t show signs of stopping
And my webcam is a poppin’
My emoticons are ready to go
Let’s IM, let’s IM, let’s IM

When we finally say goodnight
How I’ll miss our witty banter
But if you ever really need to talk
Let’s IM, let’s IM, let’s IM

Most of my friends have signed off
But you and I, we’re still connecting
As long as you don’t ignore me
Let’s IM, let’s IM, let’s IM

In related news, Yahoo! asked us to get into the holiday spirit and be kind with the people around us. “In the spirit of the holidays, Yahoo! is encouraging our community to create a ripple of good around the world by doing random acts of kindness. You in?” said Program Manager with Yahoo! Mail, Andrew Molyneux. Until the end of the year, a purple heart will be displayed in the Yahoo! Mail status update box. Just click the heart and let everyone know you took Yahoo!’s offer, that you’re doing some random act of kindness. If you don’t know what you could do, see what other people in the Yahoo! network are doing to spread kindness by visiting kidness.yahoo.com

In further related news, you could give yourself an early Christmas present and upgrade to Yahoo! Messenger 10. Version 10 of the Yahoo! developed instant messaging (IM) app was released as a final, stable software application this November. If you’re currently using Yahoo! Messenger 9, upgrading is a piece of cake.
