Yahoo! Messenger Lands on the iPad
Yahoo! Messenger is a great app you can use to stay in touch with your friends, whether they are also on Yahoo! Messenger or on other networks, like Windows Live or Facebook (if you connect your Yahoo! account with your Facebook account in Yahoo! Messenger 11 Beta). Until now we could use Yahoo! Messenger on a Windows-powered desktop, on an Android-powered mobile device, or on an iOS-powered iPhone or iPod Touch. As of yesterday, we can use Yahoo! Messenger one another device, one of the hottest devices at the moment.
Yahoo! announced yesterday, the 18th of May, that the Yahoo! Messenger experience has been extended to the iPad. Or to put it in other words, the Yahoo! Messenger app has been updated to version 2.1, update that adds support for the iPad. You can grab the app free of charge from the App Store right now. Offered free of charge and available in numerous languages (English, Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Romanian, Spanish, Vietnamese) the app works with any iOS 4.0 powered iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
Before you go get the app and try it out on your iPad, perhaps you would like to know what it has to offer. Here’s the lowdown:
- Optimized to take advantage of the iPad’s screen.
- You can IM other users, and you can make voice and video calls to other users. Please note that voice calls can be made with the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad while video calls can be made wit the iPhone 3G S, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4 and iPad 2.
- You can send text messages to your friends. This feature is available in the USA, Philippines, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Canada, Pakistan, Kuwait and Thailand. The recipient may be charged by their carrier for the text message you sent him.
- Share photos and videos in real-time with your friends.
- Stay in touch with friends who are on Windows Live Messenger.
- The app can run in the background and will display a notification alert when you get an IM.
- Premium users on iPhone and iPod Touch in US, Singapore, France, Germany and Spain can make low cost international calls to landlines and mobile phones with their Yahoo! Voice Phone Out account.
