The development team behind Yahoo!’s instant messaging client for Windows-powered machines, mainly Yahoo! Messenger 9, has great news for all the YM users in Romania: Yahoo! Messenger 9 now provides support for Trilulilu. If the name does not ring a bell, here a brief explanation of what Trilulilu is all about: it is a video, image and audio sharing website that was launched back in 2007. You can compare it to YouTube for example.

What does support for Trilulilu in Yahoo! Messenger mean? It means you will be able to view Trilulilu videos directly in your Yahoo! Messenger window. YM 9 users are certainly familiar with the instant messaging client’s ability to play YouTube videos directly in the chat window. Well, this is precisely the same.

Senior Product Manager with Yahoo!, Sarah Bacon, announced this new feature: “The inline video player feature in Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 now supports links from the popular Romanian video sharing site, http://trilulilu.ro. Now when you send a trilulilu.ro link to a friend using Yahoo! Messenger 9.0, the video window will appear inline in your conversation.”

Sarah Bacon used the occasion to ask all Yahoo! Messenger 9 users one interesting question: “Any other video sites you would like to see supported in the inline media player?” It stands to reason that if the Yahoo! Messenger team would like to feedback from the user, then they will surely add support for more video sites in YM9 in the future. We’ll keep you posted when this happens.

I’ve been in contact with some Yahoo! Messenger 9 users from Romania, and while they are thrilled about the new functionality, there is one other feature that they would like to see in YM9 – send free SMS messages from Yahoo! Messenger. This option is available in YM 9, but only in select countries (Romania not included).
