The development team behind the popular email service Yahoo! Mail has recently showed Arabic-speaking users from the Middle East and North Africa region some love. And when I say “some love” I mean that support for the Arabic language has been added to Yahoo! Mail and that Yahoo! Mail in Arabic is mirrored (that’s because you read Arabic from right to left, not from left to right).

Not only can Arabic-speaking users view Yahoo! Mail in their language, they can also send out messages in their language. Yahoo! Mail’s rich text editor has been updated to support Arabic, which means that you can now write and respond to emails and instant messages in Arabic.

So to recap, Yahoo! Mail added support for Arabic, mirrored the Arabic version so you can read from right to left, and updated the rich text editor so you can write emails and instant messages in Arabic. There is something else Yahoo! has to offer to all the Arabic-speaking users out there: engaging local news from Yahoo! Maktoob (you can sign up for a Yahoo! Maktoob account here if you don’t have one already).

And since we’ve mentioned “all the Arabic-speaking users out there”, according to the latest statistics there re more than 70 million people with internet access in the Middle East and North Africa region. And according to the estimates, some 50 million more will go online in the next three years. Product Manager with Yahoo! Mail Vivek Rao explained that “the Arabic-speaking region is a huge and important one for Yahoo! and Yahoo! Mail” and that Yahoo! is “thrilled about launching Yahoo! Mail in Arabic and look forward to enhancing the product in the weeks and months to come.”

If you’re an Arabic-speaking user and you’re already on Yahoo! Mail, go ahead and check it out in Arabic. If you’re not using Yahoo! Mail, you are very well advised to set up an account here . It will only take a moment.
