Google’s attachment limit of 25MB in Gmail looks like a dwarf now that Yahoo! announced that you can send files up to 100MB with its Yahoo! Mail service. The announcement was made by Miriam Geller, Director of Product Management with Yahoo; she announced it last week. Here is what Miriam Geller said:

“Thanks to the new 'Attach Large Files' application on Yahoo! Mail, anyone can easily upload and send files of up to 100MB from their Yahoo! Mail accounts. The application, developed by YouSendIt, the global leader in secure digital content delivery, leverages the Yahoo! Mail Application Platform to enable this capability.”

By clicking the “Attach Large Files” paper airplane icon in the "Applications" ares of Yahoo! Mail, explained Geller, you can access the YouSendIt app. What you have to do next is click the big green “Select Files” button to, well, select the file or files you want to send. After the files you want to send are uploaded, an email compose window will be opened; said window will include a link to the files.

What happens after you send the email and the 100MB files? The receiver, upon getting the email, will have to click the “Download” button to get the 100MB files you sent him.

“All files sent through YouSendIt are encrypted and then scanned by the system for viruses, so they will arrive safely. YouSendIt will first go live to users in the U.S., and in the coming weeks our international users will get access,” added Geller.

What if you want to share a file that’s larger than 100MB with one of your friends for example? In that case, we have to go back to Google – to Google Docs to be more precise. You can upload up to 1GB to Google Docs free of charge, then share whatever you uploaded with your friend. Details on how you can do that are available in this help article.
