For the first time in 18 years, Yahoo! changed its logo. The new logo, as seen above, has started rolling out globally across Yahoo! properties.

Here’s a video that presents the craft behind the new Yahoo! logo.

The month of August began with an interesting announcement from Yahoo!. The company announced that it plans on revamping its logo and that for the duration of the month it will present logo proposals to the public as part of a “30 days of change” campaign.

“The new logo will be a modern redesign that’s more reflective of our reimagined design and new experiences,” said at the time Yahoo! Chief Marketing Officer Kathy Savitt. “We also want to preserve the character that is unique to Yahoo! — fun, vibrant, and welcoming — so we’ll be keeping the color purple, our iconic exclamation point and of course the famous yodel. After all, some things never go out of style.”

It’s now early September and the “30 days of change” campaign is over. Out of all the proposals, one has been chosen to be the new Yahoo! logo. What’s the big deal? You see, Yahoo!’s logo hasn’t bee updated in about 18 years. This is the first time since the company’s founding 18 years ago that it adopts a new logo.

Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer had the following to comment on the new logo:
“Our brand, as represented by the logo, has been valued at as much as ~$10 billion dollars. So, while it was time for a change, it’s not something we could do lightly.”

And here is what Yahoo! Chief Marketing Officer Kathy Savitt had to say about the logo:
“We wanted a logo that stayed true to our roots (whimsical, purple, with an exclamation point) yet embraced the evolution of our products.”

Another nice thing is that the exclamation mark dances around the logo. Just go to Yahoo.com and see for yourself.
