October, as you may already know, is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Earlier this month we reported that Yahoo! is joining in the fight against breast cancer and wants you to join in as well. Yahoo! will donate $1 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, but only if users “turn pink”. For each user that turns pink Yahoo! will donate $1 (up to $50,000).

Users can “turn pink” by updating your pink ribbon status in Yahoo! Shine and Yahoo! Pulse. Furthermore users can show their support or Breast Cancer Awareness Month by dressing their avatar with the Breast Cancer Awareness Gear, which is basically a pink ribbon that symbolizes support for finding a cure for breast cancer.

President and CEO of Yahoo!, Carol Bartz, has come out to show her support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and ask users to “turn pink.” Here is what Carol Bartz, a breast cancer survivor, had to say:

“The fight against the disease is different for anyone who’s ever been diagnosed. And in my case, one of the reasons I was able to beat my cancer into remission was due to early detection. Yet not everyone is so lucky. But we can start to change that with your help. That’s why for Breast Cancer Awareness Month (which is going on right now) we’re partnering with the National Breast Cancer Foundation to provide free mammograms for uninsured women. So please join us in the fight against breast cancer.”

So what are you waiting for? Update your status, show your support, and help the National Breast Cancer Foundation get $50K from Yahoo!, money that will provide free mammograms to a lot of women.
