Yahoo! recently announced that it acquired Qwiki, the app that automatically turns photos and videos into a beautiful movie that you can easily share with others.

Yahoo! started the month with some acquisition news. The company announced on Tuesday, July 2nd, that it acquired Qwiki, the company that uses powerful technology to make it easier to create and share stories with others. As part of the acquisition, the Qwiki team will join Yahoo! in its New York City office and will help reimagine Yahoo!’s storytelling experience. The Qwiki iPhone app will not be discontinued – Yahoo! will continue to support it.

“We’re excited to announce that Yahoo! acquired Qwiki - a company that uses awesome technology to bring together pictures, music and video to capture the art of storytelling,” said Yahoo!. We will continue to support the Qwiki app, and the team will join Yahoo! in our New York city office to reimagine Yahoo!’s storytelling experience. Stay tuned … there’s much more to come!”

“Thank you for being a part of our story - one which is far from over. The Qwiki app will live on as a standalone entity inside Yahoo!, where we will grow our thriving community and where our team will continue to work to help you share life’s best experiences,” said the Qwiki Team. “On behalf of the Qwiki team, our sincerest appreciation to the investors, advisors, believers and USERS for helping us reach this outcome. We are so very grateful.”

One tap storytelling - that is the sort of functionality you can expect to get from the Qwiki iPhone app. The app takes your pictures and your videos, efficiently sorts them, adds transitions and a soundtrack, and generates a beautiful movie that can be easily shared with others via Facebook, Twitter, email, or SMS.
