Last month we announced that Yahoo! decided to shut down its personal communication portal Yahoo! 360. All users were advised at the time to move their content from Yahoo! 360 to Yahoo! Profiles by the 13th of July, the date when 360 would officially shut its doors. Now the Yahoo! team has come out to announce that the Yahoo! 360 plug-in for Yahoo! Messenger will change as well – makes sense if you ask me.

Senior Product Manager with Yahoo!, Sarah Bacon, explains: “With the closure of Yahoo! 360°, its plug-in for Yahoo! Messenger 8.1 and 9.0 will be changing as well. The 360° plug-in will automatically update to the “Your Profile on Yahoo!” plug-in. In addition to a new name, the revamped plug-in will include different content. You’ll notice buttons that link to the blog feature, as well as buttons to view updates and edit your profile.”

The good news for all of you using the Yahoo! 360 plug-in is that you will not have to do anything to update the plug-in. Just as Sarah Bacon explained above, the process will be carried out automatically. If your Yahoo! 360 plug-in did not “auto-magically” turn into the new Your Profile on Yahoo! plug-in, have patience. The update is being rolled out gradually and should reach you momentarily.

Haven’t used the Yahoo! 360 plug-in before and want to try it out? Sadly for you, this is no longer an option. What you could do instead is use the update, the Your Profile on Yahoo! plug-in.

Sarah Bacon again: “If you have not been using the Yahoo! 360° plug-in but would like to use this new updated version, click the “Add Plug-ins” button in your main Yahoo! Messenger window and look for “Your Profile on Yahoo!”. Then click the Start button next to it to add it back to your Messenger.
