Great news for fans of the award-winning World of Goo game: after reporting that an iPhone version of World of Goo is coming, and after reporting that World of Goo for iPhone has been submitted to the App Store, we now report that the iPhone version of the award-winning game will go live on the App Store in two days time, on the 14th of April.

2D Boy, the company founded by former EA Arts developers Kyle Gabler and Ron Carmel, announced that the app will be released on April 14, that it will be priced at $2.99, and that for the first 24 hours following the release it will be on sale for $0.99.

2D Boy also announced that it will release an update for World of Goo HD, the iPad version of the game. The update will make the iPad app universal, meaning that if you purchase World of Goo HD for $4.99, you will get the iPhone version free of charge.

The bottom line is this: if you want to play World of Goo on your iPad, get the $4.99 World of Goo HD app; on the 14th of April, when World of Goo for iPhone will be released and the World of Goo HD app will become universal, you will get the iPhone version free of charge. If you only want to play World of Goo on your iPhone, take advantage of the first 24 hours sale and get the app for $0.99.

2D Boy said that “we have discovered a strange new character who mysteriously appears after the end of the game. This new character seems to appear only in the iOS versions of World of Goo.” 2D Boy added that “the Goo Balls are restless. I’m sure they are attempting to communicate a big wet thank you to all you fantastic fans out there who have supported us through the years with praise, excitement, and the spreading the word.”
