The team behind popular computational knowledge engine Wolfram Alpha announced this week that the Wolfram Alpha app for iOS has been updated and that the update brings with it visual upgrades to weather queries, the introduction of links to purchase products from Best Buy, and premium image-processing functionality.

With the latest version of the Wolfram Alpha app for iOS, that would be version 1.4, you can now use text and images as input. You can input images from your Camera Roll or you can snap a picture right then and there and load it into Wolfram Alpha; the iOS app will then analyze the photo, add filters, detect features, perform color processing, and apply image effects.

To get a clearer idea of what image processing capabilities Wolfram Alpha has to offer, you can visit the Image Input examples page here. If you want to have a first hand experience with Wolfram Alpha’s image processing capabilities, just get the Wolfram Alpha iOS app from the App Store here. The app is available for purchase for the price of $2,99; it works with any iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad powered by iOS 4.1 or newer.

Get the app and you will have quick and easy access to the computational power of Wolfram Alpha. The app plugs into the Wolfram Alpha supercomputing cloud so that it can answer all of your questions rapidly and efficiently. It will compute answers from a variety of domains, like math, stocks, medicine, weather, and many, many more. It is a tool that will meet the needs of all sorts of users, from students, engineers and scientists to financial analists, managers, pilots, and sportsmen.

Ease of use is just as important as supercomputing functionality. The Wolfram Alpha app is designed to fit on your iDevice’s screen and designed so that you can easily enter a query and view the results.
