The next preview of the upcoming Windows 8 operating system will be released today, May 31st, according to a now-removed blog post and according to Neowin’s internal sources. This release follows in the footsteps of Windows 8 Consumer Preview which was rolled out to the public on February 29th, 2012.

The story starts with a prematurely released post on the Windows Hardware and Driver Developer Blog. The post used to be available here, but it was quickly taken down. At the time of writing this, when you click the link you’re greeted with a “Post not found” message. Signed by Corporate Vice President of the Windows Development team Chuch Chan and dated May 31st, 2012, the post said that Windows 8 Release Preview was rolled out to the Windows Dev Center.

“Welcome to the Windows 8 Hardware blog! I’m Chuck Chan, Corporate Vice President on the Windows Development team. We’re very excited to make available today the Windows 8 Release Preview on the Windows Dev Center. Windows 8 represents a leap forward for the Windows platform, the development tool set, and the device experiences you can build for Windows,” said Chuck Chan in the post.
