Until now all we knew for sure about the next iteration of the Windows-based operating system, mainly Windows 7, was that Microsoft plans to put out six, superset versions of the OS. The Redmond software developer did not issue any official details on how much Windows 7 will cost, but this did not stop the dealer and OEM price recommendations to leak online. Keeping with the “leak online” theme, a new version of the Windows 7 OS has showed up on various torrent sites – Windows 7 Build 7022.

A few words of warning before we shed some light on how much cash you are expected to shell out for Windows 7. The first thing to keep in mind is that this is not an official price list; the second thing to remember is that Microsoft will offer discounts to those of you who want to upgrade from Windows Vista and even XP (upgrade requires a fresh OS install); last but not least, the price may vary if you purchase a system from an OEM with the OS preinstalled.

How much will Windows 7 set you back? Here is the pricelist:
- Windows 7 Starter $199
- Windows 7 Home Premium $259
- Windows 7 Professional $299
- Windows 7 Ultimate $319
As you can see, the prices are rather steep; hopefully Microsoft will provide an official price list soon so that we can all put our minds to rest.

Remember the Beta version of Windows 7, the one that Microsoft decided to extend its download availability until the 10th of February (that is tomorrow, the day when Microsoft will also plug two critical security holes with its February Patch Tuesday). That version of the OS was build 7000. Since then we’ve seen leaked screenshots of Build 7025, and now reports have surfaced on the availability of Build 7022. Torrent site downloaders that already got it say it is the genuine article.
