Previous Far Cry games focused on gunplay and vehicle gameplay. Far Cry Primal is different. The action takes place during the beginning of the Mesolithic period, some 12,000 years ago. You are a hunter called Takkar and you are stranded in the untamed land of Oros. Takkar’s hunting group was ambushed and he is the only one who survived. On his own, he must use his extensive set of skills to survive savage animal attacks and hostile bands of rival hunters.

“The Stone Age is the perfect setting for a Far Cry game.” said Jean-Christophe Guyot, creative director, Ubisoft. “Far Cry usually puts you at the edge of the known world, in a beautiful, lawless and savage frontier. The Stone Age is, in a way, the very first frontier for humankind; it’s the time when humans put a stick in the ground and claimed land for their own, the time when we started climbing the food chain. That came with conflict, against other humans of course, but also against nature itself.”

You can’t purchase weapons in Far Cry Primal – you have to gather the necessary materials and craft them. You’ll be able to craft melee and short-ranged weapons like axes, clubs, spears, and bows. Armed with these weapons you’ll get to travel across the massive open world of Oros, hunt for food, battle sabertooth tigers and other dangerous animals, fight rival hunters, and protect fellow tribe members.

Fire plays an important part in the game; it’s good for personal protection and serves as a useful tool for hunting at night. Taming animals also plays an important part in the game. Takkar has a special connection with the wildlife, being able to tame powerful predators.

Far Cry Primal for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will be released on February 23, 2016.

Far Cry Primal for PC will be released in March 2016. You can pre-order it right now from its official website.
