We Have a Delayed, but Precise Release Date for XCOM 2

If you were hoping to play XCOM 2 on your PC this fall, I have some bad news for you: the strategy game’s release date has been pushed back.

XCOM 2 won’t be released this November, as Firaxis announced back in June. It will be released next year, on February 5th.

If you’re wondering why the game’s release date has been pushed back, the answer quality. Firaxis feels the game isn’t up to scratch and more time is needed to make sure that XCOM 2 will offer "more depth, more replayability and more investment in your soldiers."

“We've set a high bar for the sequel and the entire team has been working hard to make sure we deliver a great follow-up to Enemy Unknown,” said the XCOM 2 development team. “We just need a little more time to make it the best possible game.”

XCOM 2 is the sequel to 2012’s highly acclaimed XCOM: Enemy Unknown strategy game. While XCOM: Enemy Unknown was released on mobile devices and consoles, XCOM will be a PC-exclusive game that will only be distributed through Steam. So When XCOM2 does arrive, it will be available for PCs only, it won’t be available for consoles.

The action in XCOM 2 takes place in a world where humanity lost the war against the aliens. It’s 20 years later, Earth is overrun by hostile alien forces, and you have to fight to take back the planet.

Delays such as this one are common in the video game world. I don’t know about you, but I would rather wait than play a game that isn’t fully baked.

If you want to play something cool this November, I must remind you that Fallout 4 is penciled in for a November release. So if you’re an XCOM and a Fallout fan, you won’t have to choose between the two. You can play Fallout 4 in November, and XCOM 2 a few months later, in February.
