We Are Linux: Vote for the Best User Created Linux Commercial
A while back the Linux Foundation issued a challenge to all Linux fans out there that would love to see the operating system gain popularity amongst computer users all over the world. That challenge was to come up with a commercial that “showcases just what Linux means to those who use it.” There were of course a couple of requirements, but if you followed them and came up with a truly inspiring video, then you could win a bunch of prizes.
The Linux Foundation explains why it launched the challenge: “If you've been alive and aware of mass media over the last twelve months, you've probably seen television commercials from Apple and Microsoft touting their operating system. From Apple's ubiquitous "I'm a Mac" to Jerry Seinfeld to Microsoft's "I'm a PC" retort, operating system commercials have been flooding the airways. Except one OS has been notably absent – Linux.”
The last day you could submit your entry was the 15th of March; the contest has now moved past the submission phase and into the judging phase. The Linux Foundation went through all the submissions, rejected the ones that did not respect the rules, and picked a bunch of them that would make for a proper Linux ad. It is now up to you to indicate the winner by voting for your favorite video.
“The entry period for the contest is now officially closed, and the judging period has begun. Keep voting and commenting on your favorites, and return to see which video is the winner. To vote for a video, simply click on the number of blue stars under the video that reflects how much you liked it,” explained the Linux Foundation.
The person that wins the contest will have the opportunity to go to Tokyo, Japan and attend the Linux Foundation Japan Linux Symposium scheduled for October. The video will be first showcased in San Francisco, at the Linux Foundation’s Collaboration Summit – on the 8th of April.
