Once you post an image online pretty much anyone can download it and use it to their heart’s content. The thing is that some of us want recognition for that image, want to protect it in some way or another, and this is free watermarking software comes in. Following our coverage of Bytescout, I would like to present to you Romanelli Image Tool, which allows you to batch resize and watermark images, WaterMark.ws, which is a web service to address your watermarking needs, and Riot, a software application that will allow you to resize images without negatively impacting their quality.

Romanelli Image Tool, which you can download and use for free, is great because of its batch feature: batch convert, batch rename, batch resize, batch watermark. When you have a large quantity of pics that need watermarking, you can’t afford to lose time going through them one at a time. Even Google realized that users’ time is important and consequently enhanced Gmail’s attachment feature. Getting back to the software, it must be said that its file support is limited to JPEG, BMP, GIF and PNG.


WaterMark.ws will come in handy when you need to watermark an image on the go. Imagine this scenario if you will: you travel to a remote location, take some beautiful photos and want to post them online as quick as possible. You manage to find a computer with an internet connection, but you have no watermarking software – with WaterMark.ws you do not need any program or application. Simply visit the site, upload a photo, select the watermark you would like to add, and download the resulting image.

Riot, despite the flamboyant name, does not perform any violent task whatsoever; instead it allows you to resize a high-quality image without losing any of the quality you care so much about. It provides very good compression, real-time, support for a wide range of image formats (JPG, BMP, GIF, JP2, PNG, TGA, TIFF, PSD, PCD, PXC, PPM, PBM, RAS, ICO, MNG, WBMP, XBM, XPM, HDR, SGI).
