A wanted man used Snapchat to let his friends know where he was staying. Someone tipped off the police, and the police went looking for him.

Luckily for the wanted man, the police couldn’t find him. Unluckily for him, he used Snapchat to share that he’s hiding in a cabinet.

Earlier this year, someone stole a propane cook stove and a cast iron wood stove from a sporting camp in Pierce Pond Township. The authorities looked into the matter and found a suspect: Christopher Wallace, a 24 year old man from Fairfield, Maine. After obtaining a warrant and searching Wallace’s home, the authorities recovered the stolen wood stove. And after gathering additional information, the authorities also recovered the propane wood stove.

The authorities did not apprehend Wallace though. And because he remained at large, Somerset County Sheriff’s Department asked for the public’s help in finding him.

Wallace was a wanted man. So what did he do? Did he go into hiding, or did he do something incredibly stupid to make it very, very easy for the authorities to apprehend him? You’ve guessed it, he went with the latter.

He posted a message on Snapchat to let his friends know that he’s staying at a house in Fairfield, Somerset County. When you’re a wanted man, it’s best not to let others know where you are. After all, you don’t want someone to tip off the authorities. And... that is precisely what happened.

Two officers from Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, accompanied by two officers from the Fairfield Police Department, went to pay Wallace a visit. But after searching the residence, they couldn’t find him. Wallace was hiding in a cabinet and he might have gotten away with it, but…he just couldn't put Snapchat away.

He used Snapchat to let his friends know that the police are searching the house and are unable to find him because he’s hiding in a cabinet. Once again, the authorities were tipped off and after searching the kitchen cabinets, they found Wallace and arrested him.
